About the Author


Barbara is an award-winning author of nonfiction books, magazine articles, and scripts. She has contributed to six nonfiction books, including a Book-of-the-Month-Club Dividend, and has authored two young adult nonfiction books, including Diabetes, which won an award and earned reviewers' recommendations in Booklist, Book Review Forum, and The Book Report.


Her awards from the American Medical Writers Association, Greater Chicago Area Chapter, include the Sound/Sight Award; a special citation for print and audiovisual work; and honorable mention for the Beth Fonda Award for excellence in communications for a lay audience, and for the Morris Fishbein Award for distinguished achievement in medical writing.


Her memberships include the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the American Medical Writers Association, Midwest Writers Association, and Independent Writers of Chicago.


Other than writing and reading, her favorite activities include sailing, playing a wicked game of Scrabble, and traveling. She enjoys opera, French literature and language, and foreign travel.


Barbara trained several English Springer Spaniels in obedience and conformation. She bred her champion Springer and kept a puppy from the litteróRosie, a devoted, happy-go-lucky companion who surprised everyone by placing first over 30 other dogs in an obedience competition.


A graduate of Northwestern University, Barbara lives with her husband in Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach, Florida.
